Date & Nut Bread

Makes 2 loaves

Ingredients

2 cups chopped dates
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 egg
2 cups brown sugar
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Pour boiling water over dates, add butter and soda. Allow to cool.

  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  3. Add egg, brown sugar, flour, salt, and vanilla to date mixture. Mix well.

  4. Stir in chopped walnuts.

  5. Spoon into loaf pans.

  6. Bake for one hour.

  7. Cool and slice.


May also be made into sandwiches with cream cheese filling.
