Cookie in a Jar

Makes 4 dozen  •  From the kitchen of Rose Meyerhofer, MA

Ingredients

1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup chocolate-covered candy (i.e., holiday M&M's)
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup cocoa crisped rice cereal
1/2 cup white chocolate chips

Directions

  1. In a 1 quart wide mouth jar, add the ingredients in the order listed.

  2. Pack them firmly after each addition with a wooden spoon to tap down each layer.

  3. Screw on the cover and prepare gift tag with instructions:


To make your holiday cookies:

  1. Cream together 1/2 cup of butter or margarine,1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 egg in a large bowl.

  2. Add the contents of the jar and stir until well blended.

  3. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Makes 4 dozen.


Make a rectangle from card stock, decorated with markers and the directions inside. Punch a hole in the corner for a length of narrow ribbon, which can then be tied around the jar's neck or beneath the threads of the lid.
