Playful Puppies

These little pups will definitely brighten any dog lover’s day. These felt ornaments are a bit less involved than my other felt ornaments, such as the basset hound. I used glue to attach many of the pieces rather than sewing, which makes it a fun craft for kids! I used hot glue, but you can substitute felt glue if you want to make it more kid-friendly. I included two puppy patterns in the template for your crafting pleasure. Have fun making some!

Scandinavian Woven Hearts

My mother taught me how to make these hearts many years ago. She used to make these out of red and white velvet ribbon, but today I’m making them out of paper. I didn’t know it back then, but these woven hearts are actually native to Scandinavia. These are easy to make and are addictive, so pull out scissors and your favorite paper!

Cute as a Cupcake

Want a delicious cupcake that lasts forever? (Deliciously cute, that is.) Make this little cupcake ornament, but don’t eat it! ;) Want a different “flavor”? Change the color of the felt and the “sprinkles” to suit your taste. Are you giving someone some kitchen items for Christmas? Decorate the package with this petite cupcake. What color/flavor are you making?

Sparkly Pipe Cleaner Ornaments

I’m amazed at how simple these were to make! Each ornament only requires 2–3 pipe cleaners. I wanted to make some lightweight 2-dimensional ornaments to hang on my “Christmas in July” paper palm trees, but ran into a creative block after making some unattractive paper ornaments. Then I found metallic red/gold/silver/green chenille stems at the craft store. These ornaments are light enough to tape onto the paper palm trees and are equally suitable for a fragrant evergreen!

Glittered Ornaments

Glittered Ornaments

We LOVE glitter up here at the North Pole. It’s pretty easy to make your own glitter ornaments; all you need is the right adhesive. I recommend using Glitter It for glass ornaments. You can try layering different colors of glitter, but this can get a little tricky—it was almost impossible for me to get perfectly straight lines. As long as you aren’t pining for perfection, you can make some beautiful multi-colored ornaments using this technique.

Song Birds

Sheet music + birds = song birds! These cute and simple ornaments could easily be made from any unwanted book, dictionary, map, etc. Feel free to explore and use whatever material you like. I found my sheet music in an old songbook at a yard sale. I love to rummage around thrift stores and yard sales because I never know what I might find. Plus, the prices can’t be beat!
