I was inspired to make a stocking out of burlap after making some burlap table decorations. It can be a little difficult to work with burlap; the threads ravel easily, and you have to be careful when cutting it since it tends to warp. Even though burlap is a utility fabric, the loosely woven fibers give it a delicate nature. To counteract this, I reinforced the burlap with cotton fabric. The cotton is sewn to each individual piece of burlap, and then all the pieces are sewn together. When complete, you have a charming stocking with touches of burlap’s rough and earthy qualities.
