Ingredients

1 cup Crisco shortening
3 cups sugar
1 teaspoon salt
4 eggs
3 1/2 cups flour, sifted before measuring
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 tablespoons vinegar
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons Adams Best vanilla
2 teaspoons Adams Best butter flavoring
1 teaspoon Adams Best lemon

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Grease a 10x4 inch tube cake pan.

  3. Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs. Cream until sugar is dissolved.

  4. Pour in buttermilk and flour, mix until creamy.

  5. Mix vinegar, 1 teaspoon salt and soda, as you mix let it pour into your cake mixture. Then beat again.

  6. Add 1/2 teaspoon yellow food color, vanilla, lemon and butter flavor. Mix well.

  7. Pour into prepared pan.

  8. Bake 1 hour.

  9. Put on a cake plate, cover with lid, let sweat without removing lid until cool.


This cake can be used as a spice cake also by just adding spices.
