Recipe Details

Ingredients

3/4 cup shortening (melted)
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses (robust flavor)
1 egg
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
extra sugar, for rolling dough in before baking

Directions

  1. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  2. Grease cookie sheets.

  3. Melt shortening and let cool, add sugar, molasses and egg, beat well.

  4. Sift soda, flour, cloves, salt, ginger and cinnamon. Mix well.

  5. Chill dough.

  6. Roll into small balls and then roll in sugar.

  7. Place on prepared cookie sheet.

  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
