Ingredients

3 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup (2 sticks) butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon mace
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 cup milk

Frosting:
1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
2 teaspoons butter
1/2 cup milk
2 1/2 cups powdered (icing) sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.

  2. Mix together all of the ingredients for the cake together in a large bowl.

  3. Spoon into large, covered baking pot.

  4. Bake in oven for 3 hours.

  5. After 2-1/2 hours take the cover off.


Frosting:

  1. Combine icing sugar, almond flavoring, butter and milk, and mix well.

  2. Spread over cake once it is completely cool.
