Brown Bread

From the kitchen of Flora Emmons

1 cup rolled oats (not quick oats)
3 Tablespoons shortening
1 cup hot water
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
3 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 packages active yeast dissolved in 2 cups warm water (105-115 degrees)
7 cups all purpose flour

Combine oats, shortening, water, sugar, then add salt and yeast mixture. Stir in about 7 cups flour and add a little more if needed so that the dough is workable and not sticky. Let rest for 1/2 hour. Separate in half and place in 2 greased loaf pans. Let rise until doubled in size. Bake at 400 degrees about one hour or until done.
