1 package large seedless raisins
2 cups hot water
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups white sugar
1 cup cold water
3 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon nutmeg
When ready to bake, preheat oven.
Grease and flour a 13x9 inch baking pan.
Cook raisins in hot water for 20 minutes.
Put sugar and shortening in large bowl, pour hot raisins and water over; stir well and set aside.
Let cool overnight or until shortening hardens.
The next day, add cold water and rest of ingredients, mix well.
Pour into prepared pan.
Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Cool for a few minutes and remove from pan.
