Aunt Jennie's Plain Cake

Makes 1 cake

From the kitchen of Julie



1 cup Crisco
3 cups Sugar
1 teaspoon salt
4 eggs
3 1/2 cups flour, sifted before measuring
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 Tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons Adams Best Vanilla
2 teaspoons Adams Best Butter Flavoring
1 teaspoon Adams Best Lemon


Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs. Cream until sugar is dissolved. Pour in buttermilk and flour, mix until creamy. Mix vinegar, 1 tsp. salt and soda, as you mix let it pour into your cake mixture. Then beat again. Add 1/2 tsp. yellow food color, vanilla, lemon and butter flavor. Mix well. Pour into a well greased and floured tube cake pan, 10x4-inches. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. Put on a cake plate, cover with lid, let sweat without removing lid until cool. This cake can be used as a spice cke also by just adding spices.
