Ingredients

225 grams butter
145 grams packed brown sugar
160 ml molasses
1 egg, beaten
10 ml vanilla extract
500 grams all-purpose flour
3 grams baking soda
5 grams cinnamon
2 grams ground ginger
2 grams ground cloves
1 can store bought frosting
as desired food coloring

Directions

  1. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 325 degrees F / 165 C.

  2. In a medium saucepan, Stir together the butter, brown sugar, and molasses over medium heat until dissolved. Pour into a large mixing bowl, and let cool for 5 minutes.

  3. Stir the egg and vanilla into the melted mixture until smooth. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves; stir into the wet mixture. Cover and chill dough for a few hours or overnight.

  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into bear shapes with a cookie cutter, and place onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, cookies should be firm.

  5. Add food coloring to frosting while cookies are cooling.

  6. After cookies are cool add frosting as desired
