Grand's Brown Bread

From the kitchen of Ronnie Goddard

3 cups boiling water
1 cup luke warm water
2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1/2 cup shortening
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 cup molasses
1 cup rolled oats
9 to 9 1/2 cups flour

Add sugar and yeast to luke warm water and let raise for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, add the shortening, molasses, and rolled oats to the boiling water. Add yeast mixture. Mix in flour, one cup at a time. Roll out on to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes. Put dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let raise for 1 hour. Punch down raised dough and cut it into 4 equal portions. Place each piece in a greased bread pan. Cover and let it raise 3/4 -1 hour. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
