Recipe Details

Ingredients

2 cups shortening, creamed
5 eggs, beaten until light
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 small cakes of yeast
1 cup lukewarm milk
5 cups flour

Filling:
1 pound ground walnuts
1 Tablespoon butter
1 cup sugar
Milk

Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast in milk.

  2. Combine all ingredients and beat until light.

  3. Add vanilla and beat well. Batter will be soft.

  4. Refrigerate 2 hours.

  5. Pinch off dough and roll in sugar. Cut into squares.

  6. Fill with filling. Roll up and press ends together.

  7. Bake for 15 minutes at 375 degrees.


Filling:
  1. Mix walnuts, butter, and sugar.

  2. Stir well and add milk to make to correct consistency.
