This is the recipe for traditional Finnish gingerbreads. We Finns don't have any other Christmas cookies than this and these are the most Finnish cookies in the world

Ingredients

2 dl/0.85 cup syrup
2 tl/tsp of cinnamon
1 tl/tsp ground allspice
1 tl/tsp clove
1 tl/tsp ginger
400 g butter
5 dl/2.11 cup sugar
1 egg
2 dl/0.85 cup double cream
3 tl/tsp baking soda
14 dl/5.91 cup wheat flour

Directions

  1. Heaten up the syrup and add the spices to it. Froth the butter and sugar. Mix the flour and baking soda in a third bowl. Pour the cooled down syrup, flour mix and cream into the butter froth. Mix quickly.

  2. Let the dough harden in the cold till the next day.

  3. Cut the dough into a few fragments. Roll the fragments out to thin panels and the separate them from the surface. Then make the gingerbreads with gingerbread molds

  4. Bake at 200 Celsius or 392 Fahrenheit for about 5 minutes per baking tray.
