Ingredients

1/2 cup light cream or evaporated milk
3/4 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/3 cup treacle or molasses (not blackstrap)

Directions

  1. In a big bowl, mix together the cream, sugar and salt.

  2. In a heavy saucepan, melt the chocolate with the butter.

  3. Remove from the heat and stir in the treacle.

  4. Add the chocolate mixture to the cream mixture.

  5. Pour into 8x8 square pan.

  6. Let cool. Cut into squares and serve.


You can add 1/4 cup of raisins, 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or a pinch of nutmeg if you want.
